Standards of Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy:
Federal regulations require the school to establish Standards of Satisfactory Academic Progress as a general eligibility
requirement. A student must maintain satisfactory academic progress in a course of study regardless of whether the student
previously received financial aid.
- The standard must be applied after each quarter of attendance, once contract evaluations are posted. It is important for
you to be aware of the measures of the standard and how it relates to your academic record at the American College of
Applied Science.
- Although standards may differ somewhat among schools, all standards are required to include specific components.
To meet the standards adopted by the American College of Applied Science, a student must:
- Maintain a minimum overall GPA of 3.0 for graduate programs.
- Maintain a minimum overall GPA of 2.0 for undergraduate and diploma programs.
- Complete a minimum of 75% of the attempted hours by the end of each quarter of each academic year.
- Graduate within the time limit assigned by this policy.
Qualitative Measure of Progress
GPA Requirements
Undergraduate & Diploma Students:
Must maintain the GPA required by the student's department of major or a minimum of 2.0 grade point average.
Graduate Students:
Must maintain the GPA required by the student's department of major or a minimum of 3.0 grade point average.
Quantitative Measure of Progress
Measurement of Progress within Time Limit
QUANTITATIVE COMPONENT (Maximum Time-Frame and Completion Ratio)
Students must complete their educational program within a maximum time frame, measured by attempted credit hours, and
must earn a minimum percentage of all attempted American College of Applied Science credit hours. The time-frame for an
undergraduate student cannot exceed 150% of the published length of the academic program (minimum credit hours required to
earn degree).
Graduate Students - A student is eligible to graduate from the American College of Applied Science with 72
undergraduate credit hours. Federal regulations state the maximum time frame of Financial Aid eligibility cannot exceed
150% of the published length of the program.
The Maximum Time-Frame for students who entered the American College of Applied Science as a new student allows a
total of 72 attempted credit hours; students who transferred to the American College of Applied Science at the graduate
entrance level are allowed 60 attempted hours.
The required Completion Ratio for all graduate students is 67% of all American College of Applied Science credit
hours attempted. Note that the completion ratio is based on American College of Applied Science credit hours only.
Undergraduate Students - A student is eligible to graduate from the American College of Applied Science with 90
undergraduate credit hours. Federal regulations state the maximum time frame of Financial Aid eligibility cannot exceed
150% of the published length of the program.
The Maximum Time-Frame for students who entered the American College of Applied Science as a new student allows a
total of 90 attempted credit hours; students who transferred to the American College of Applied Science at the freshmen
level are allowed 78 attempted hours.
The required Completion Ratio for all undergraduate students is 67% of all American College of Applied Science
credit hours attempted. Note that the completion ratio is based on American College of Applied Science credit hours
only.
Diploma Program Students - A student is eligible to graduate from the American College of Applied Science with 33
undergraduate credit hours. Federal regulations state the maximum time frame of Financial Aid eligibility cannot exceed
150% of the published length of the program.
The Maximum Time-Frame for students who entered the American College of Applied Science as a new student allows a
total of 33 attempted credit hours.
The required Completion Ratio for all diploma program students is 67% of all American College of Applied
Science credit hours attempted. Note that the completion ratio is based on American College of Applied Science credit
hours only.
Note: Changes in major or a double major do not increase the maximum time frame. Once the allowed hours have been
attempted, the maximum time frame is reached.
Please note that other programs, such as the Florida Student Assistance Grant (FSAG) and some scholarships have additional
requirements.
Successful completion is defined as earning a grade of A, B or C.
Unsuccessful completion is defined as earning a grade of D, F, I, W, Drop.
Treatment of withdrawals, incompletes, course repetitions and remedial courses will conform to the academic standards for
the American College of Applied Science for determining grade point average.
Time Limit
Students may not receive Title IV financial aid for courses that do not count toward program completion. This includes
graduate students who should be enrolled in graduate courses only, unless the undergraduate courses have been required as
prerequisites or have been approved by the department.
Federal regulations require that undergraduate students complete their degree within 150% of the hours for their specific
programs as established by the American College of Applied Science.
Graduate students must complete their degree within the time limit assigned by this policy (see chart below)
Overall Attempted Hours are monitored at the end of each quarter of each academic year, even if aid was not received during
that quarter or prior terms.

It is recommended that Second Degree seeking students meet with their academic advisors for an evaluation of courses needed
to obtain the second degree.
Programs that require more hours than usual will be monitored on a case by case basis through the appeal process.
Evaluating Satisfactory Progress
1. Initial Review - Satisfactory academic progress is initially reviewed prior to financial aid being awarded.
2. Per Quarter Review - Satisfactory academic progress is reviewed at the end of each quarter, after contract evaluations
are submitted.
What Happens when you do not meet the Required Standard?
A. When you do not meet the required Completion Ratio
B. When you reach the Maximum Time-Frame
- When you reach the maximum time frame, i.e. you have attempted the allowed maximum credit hours, your financial aid
eligibility will be cancelled.
Note: Academic Dismissal - Academic Dismissal prevents financial aid from being disbursed until you are
permitted to re-enroll at the American College of Applied Science. Appeals for academic dismissal must be made through the
Student Academic Status Committee by contacting the American College of Applied Science Registrar's Office.
Regaining Eligibility After Cancellation
- Petition - If you reach cancelled status and you feel extenuating circumstances prevented you from meeting the required
standard, you may petition the Office of Financial Aid. When you reach cancellation status, a petition must be submitted
no later than 30 calendar days from the first day of classes of the following term. Although petitions received late
are reviewed, eligibility for aid which was cancelled may not be reinstated (varies by program) if the petition is approved.
- Incomplete Grades, Missing Grades, Withdrawals, Emergency Leaves of Absence - all have a negative effect on the
completion ratio.
- Incomplete or outstanding credit is treated as NO CREDIT earned. Prior credits must be completed to receive further
financial aid consideration. Withdrawals or emergency leaves of absence taken after the first week of the quarter will be
counted in computing a student's effort toward satisfactory academic progress.
- Transfer credits do not count toward making up shortages in earned credits for the completion ratio.
- Reinstatement after Academic Dismissal - If you successfully petition the Student Academic Status Committee
(SASC) to allow you to re-enroll, after being academically dismissed, your eligibility will be reinstated as long as you are
otherwise meeting the required standard.
Changes Made by the Institution
If the institution cancels or changes a program of study or location in such a way that the student who has started is
unable to complete training, arrangements will be made in a timely manner to accommodate the needs of each student enrolled
in the program who is affected by the cancellation or change. If the institution is unable to make alternative arrangements
that are satisfactory to both parties, the institution will refund all money paid by the student of the program that amount
from the total amount paid.
