The American College of Applied Science currently offers a Bachelors of Science degree in Companion Animal Science.
Traditional undergraduate education in animal science concentrates on all species of animals including wild and domestic farm
animals. Companion animals are the animals we share our lives with for many reasons including our emotional well being. These
would be our dogs, cats, birds, pleasure horses and other animals commonly referred to as “pets”. This program concentrates
specifically on companion animals and prepares the graduate to work in fields such as companion animal behavior, veterinary
medicine, companion animal husbandry and reproduction. Courses in learning, behavior modification, and family systems are
uniquely found within this curriculum as are field projects and externships working with companion animals
Graduates may work for animal training organizations, animal shelter and welfare organizations, the government, law
enforcement, animal control agencies, veterinary practices, animal supply businesses, wildlife parks, or animal sanctuaries.
Many will go on to graduate school to become animal related professionals, executives, managers, counselors, teachers or
veterinarians. The bachelors program is a senior level program. Therefore students must enter with an Associates level degree
and/or a minimum of 60 credits from an accredited college or university. The program typically takes from two to three years
to complete.
